Norton Rose Fulbright, an international law firm, is about to merge with Chadbourne & Parke in New York. The Lawyer reports this Thursday. Negotiations about merging would be at an advanced stage, anonymous sources from the offices report.
Chadbourne & Parke has around 400 lawyers and also has offices in Latin America, Russia and Turkey, among others. However, according to American media, the office has had a better position in the market. This, plus that Norton Rose Fulbright had his eye on the strong project finance section of the office, would have started the merger talks. In New York, the two offices are already located in the same building on Sixth Avenue. They have not yet responded to the merger notices.
If the amalgamation indeed continues, it will follow less than four years after the previous merger for the current Norton Rose Fulbright (around 4,000 lawyers worldwide). This office was established in June 2013 after the merger of the British company Norton Rose and the American company Fulbright & Jaworski. The Amsterdam office of Norton Rose Fulbright has around 40 lawyers.
Incidentally, Chadbourne & Parke was in the news last year, after partner Kerrie Campbell had sued her office for one hundred million dollars for sex discrimination against female partners.
